Skin Food: Chocolate Oat Slices

These babies throw me right back to my high school days where I'd scrape together any loose change on my break to scoff down one of the canteen's chocolate oat bars - they were seriously the best ever. With a thick oaty base and a rich chocolate layer on top, mine come in kind of close but with a few hazelnuts thrown into the mix, you get a taste of Nutella which only makes them all the more dreamy - the best part? It takes about 10 minutes to throw this together and you're left with at least a weeks worth of goodness, in fact, they're so rich I could only manage a half of the bars shown above at a time and from that, I got my full choco fix. Here's how it's done...

For the biscuit base:
2/3 cup oats
2/3 cup dates
2/3 cup hazelnuts (you could also use almonds, but the hazelnuts give it a slight 'Nutella' taste!)

For the chocolate layer:
1  x 44g bar The Raw Chocolate Company Pitch Dark (or 44g dark chocolate of your choice)
4-5 tbsp maple syrup
3-4 tsp almond butter

Whizz up the biscuit base contents in a blender until combined and it starts to stick together. Line a small bread tin with baking paper and spread the base mix over evenly, pressing it down with your fingers until it's as compact as can be. Set aside and make the chocolate layer by breaking apart the chocolate bar into chunks and placing them in a glass bowl over a saucepan of boiling water. When it's started to melt and become lump-free, add in the maple syrup and stir through until you have smooth texture. Pour the chocolate mix over the base in the tin and spread evenly with a spatular or knife. Take one teaspoon of almond butter at a time and drop them in a line along the chocolate surface. Finally, take the end of a knife and using swirling motions, create a marbled pattern through the top layer. Place in the fridge for around 2 hours before removing, cutting into slices and placing in an air-tight container which can be kept in the fridge.

Hopefully your creations turn out a little more artistic than mine - I got a little carried away with my swirls until it virtually blended in to one big, thick chocolate mess.
