My Date Night Makeup

Yesterday saw the fella and I celebrate a whole 8 years together (I feel how old?) and whilst we never do anything too wild, I got prepared on the makeup front just incase he had any hidden surprises waiting up his sleeve. Going from one past occasion where he'd secretly put a plan together, he'd never actually thought about the time it takes to get my face on into account and I ended up at a fancy restaurant bare-faced with unbrushed hair and an outfit I'd thrown together in a matter of ten seconds - I'm surprised they even let me in. Not being one for too much of the heavy stuff, especially with him disliking anything but maybe a bit of moisturiser on my face, I kept things simple, yet sophisticated, even if it took around nine products to make it there...

For a nice and light base I buffed in By Terry's Sheer Cover Expert; a second skin-like finish foundation which veils the face with a fresh flawlessness. A combo of correcting pigments and a light defusing complex, deliver and all-round glow that looks all kinds of beautiful, but as coverage is barely-there detectable, I blended in NARS' Radiant Creamy Concealer in all the right places. I'm matched to Vanilla, which brightens my under eyes yet conceals blemishes and redness at the same time. To add a bit of colour to my apples, I fused Luminous Flush and Incandescent Electra from Hourglass' Ambient Lighting Blush Palette together to impart a little pink that wasn't too rosy nor too peach; both blended together created something that sits nicely in-between.

For some face-framing action, I brushed through Benefit's Gimme Brow which picks up and enhances the fairest of hairs, also coating the skin underneath for broader, bigger, bolder brows that look nothing but au-naturale. In my mind, I had a good idea eye wise, though none of my shades matched up for what I wanted to muster up (something along the lines of By Terry's Misty Rock Shadow Stick *adds to shopping list*) instead, I patted down L'Oreal's Infallible Shadow in Amber Rush all over the lid. Pressed pigment in formula, it packs a punch and its rosy gold tone compliments any eye colour. To warm things up, I washed Urban Decay's Toasted from the NAKED Palette through the crease - a rustier, redder version of the above, but they paired up rather nicely. Aside from my nude lip trio of hers, I am all over C. Tilbury's The Feline Flick for winging things out. Tipped with a felt nib, I simply press the pen side-ways on to shape my point, before joining to the lash line - liquid lining has never been such a breeze and it serves up a whole lot of definition and elongated elegancy. For the final steps, I curled my lashes with Shu Uemura and loaded on lashings of Revlon's Bold Lacquer Mascara to tie-in the whole sophisticated eye and then things were kept pretty simple for lips with a slick of Dior's Addict in Rose Deshabille; a pale, plumping pink with added sheen which won't transfer too much over your wine glass but it worked well in rounding everything off.

Even if it turned out to be a night of homemade food, a bottle of wine and a few episodes of The Walking Dead, at least I got to have a bit of a pre-makeup beforehand and will next time know the look I'll be going for when our date nights actually venture out of the flat...
