Five Things to Do to Beat The January Blues

When half-way through the month hits, the dreaded January Blues start to settle their way in, (that's if they haven't already); post-Christmas bank balances are looking a lot less healthy, spring feels like a looong time coming and to top it off, New Year's resolutions are not far from becoming a flop, only adding to the doom and gloom. So in order to make this month, and the next at that, feel not so never ending, I've learnt to make time for the following 'January Blues backside kicking' activities...

Take a Hike. I'm not talking throwing yourself into a full-on fitness routine, unless that's your thing then I high five you. Wrapping up in layers to step out into the damp is definitely going to feel like the worst way to spend your weekend, if instead you could be hibernating with your duvet as company - I feel you, but when you've been trapped in an office all week, just getting some fresh air through to your lungs and some rays on your face is the best way to wake up. An hour-long jaunt has been welcomed into my Sunday schedule, it makes me feel hella good and I plan to keep it up.

Make The Splurge. I'm not one to shop the sales, but as the next couple of months are the most drawn-out of them all, I like to think of a mini spree as a bit of a pick-me-up. I'll maybe treat myself one nice thing that I've been lusting for a while that I can enjoy over the weeks to come, lasting me through to spring. This time it was a few bits of skincare, and yes, there's a haul heading your way very soon.

Primp, Preen & Pamper. If you're still dealing with the results of a festive food coma - for me it's bloated belly and bad skin - then a head-to-toe preen is the one and only answer. Mine usually consists of a hair treatment, full-body scrub-down, facial and nail paint. Indulge for yourself, you'll seriously be feeling all the post-pamper vibes.

Organise Your Life. My Moleskine has gone unwritten in since this time last year, so I've slapped it down on my desk again for a one-on-one on organising my work life in the way of blog post and video schedules, and my days have become a whole load more productive because of it. I've also set up a weekly food shop list and meal planner using the pre-made template in a Numbers document on my Mac (adult life, eh?), saving so much time, not to mention money, and the less time you waste only means you get more to do more of what you love, which leads me onto...

Think Big, Plan Bigger. I'm still getting my head around where the past 2 years have disappeared to, and pondering about all of the goals I still want to achieve, life's too short and all that jazz. Luckily, I have a boyfriend who is just as keen to get out and see as much of the world as I am before any of the big, settling down, scary stuff, and I hope that 2015 is the year that can make this happen. January Blues, be gone...
