Good makeup starts with good skin, non? Even better when found together in a tube. We've been there, seen that with the whole face product phenomenon that is the BB cream, not forgetting the original tinted moisturiser, but the hybrid concept which sees the best of both skincare and makeup worlds fused into one is becoming an increasingly popular category for more cosmetics to drop into. It's gone far and wide, but the sciencey stuff behind the following lot has really had my beauty taste buds tingling...
The benefits are often in the bases. With a dose of epidermis-hydrating ingredients combined with the promises of perfecting, dewy makeup, Dior's Diorskin Nude BB Creme is my fave so far from the beauty balm bunch. Now the skincare add-ins don't quite live up to those found in other BB competitors, but it's the pinky hued, glow-giving finish that gets me. A light-medium amount of coverage comes from one pump and masks pimples to an okay degree so I just follow up with concealer in all the needed places. On the foundation front (or not in this case) is Perricone MD's No Foundation Foundation. Basically, it's a cosmetic, treatment and sunscreen all-in-one - I deem it one of those 'my skin but better' bases because of its dewy translucent coverage which provides skin with evened out undertones. Moisture levels are boosted throughout the day, there's a shed load of antioxidant benefits crammed in and with a non-chemical SPF 30, skin is protected in the sun. P.s good news for pale skin gals as this now comes in a 'fair' shade.
Fitting the bill as a day time moisturiser with a hint of tint is the This Works Perfect Look Skin Miracle. Paired with your fave foundation or rocked alone, its scary looking, rich caramel colour soon blends into a healthy looking, tan-like glow, all complexion imperfections instantly corrected. Its contents feature a hefty shot of hyaluronic acid - the ingredient that encourages keratin producing skin cells to increase natural hydration levels. Along the same lines, instead with a subtle champagne shimmer, is the Nourish Golden Glow Skin Illuminating Serum. This one also sees the inclusion of HA and argan oil to keep skin happy and hydrated, as well as a vitamin and tonka bean combo, all of which contribute towards a natural sheen when mixed in with your face base or popped on top.
Concealer wise, there's Perricone MD's No Concealer Concealer - think previously mentioned Perricone foundation, but a thicker, salmon-toned suits all, under-eye version. Loaded up with anti-aging properties which deliver results both instantly and over a period of time, not only does it treat fine lines, it camouflages my unsightly dark circles like no other and still protects when you're sans sunglasses with a broad spectrum SPF 35. Clinique's Lash Building Primer boosts the benefits of your follow-up mascara by adding a whole lot of volume and length, but at the same time conditions, protects and mends dry lashes with its moisturising formula. The latest hybrid to hit my stash is the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush in Radiant Magenta. More of a makeup-on-makeup hybrid, as these lightweight, airy cheek colours meld together the coverage and glowy effects of the original Ambient Lighting Powders with an infusion of captivating colours that when swept on, create a seamless and radiant, dimensional flush. There's your cosmetic innovation line-up right there, need I say more?
