My Pick of Revlon's Colorburst Matte Lips

I know what you're thinking - just another twist-up chubby-esque lip crayon, huh? - well it kinda is, but hang in there with me here. We've seen the glossy sheens and everything in between, but a pencil of the stick sort that serves up a formula completely matte? Now this is different. Of course Revlon are the behind this release, for they were the ones to really get the budget-buy chubby stick ball rolling. A far from sheeny finish can often be a tricky one to pull off - the nude numbers looking a little too concealer-like - so for me, and judging by the colours which automatically got thrown into my Boots basket, only one shade goes when it comes to matte - say hello to the reds from the range...

Texture wise, the Colorburst Matte's glide on an absolute dream; balmy-like and nicely nourishing with not a clingy dry patch in sight. Pigments are bold, last long-time and easily build-able - all of this, yet still a matte finish? Nope, I'm not too sure how it's been done either.

First up, the shade Striking, and the name says it all - a neutral cherry red which leans a little towards the orange side of things. I've got a feeling this'll be my spring lip pick of choice as orange is the seasons trend shade, or so I hear through the beauty grape vines. It's one of those 'pair with a low-key eye, fresh face and be done' colours - with a tan I feel this won't leave me looking so pasty pale, but it's love nonetheless. Then comes the dark berry of the bunch named Standout, an all year-rounder kind of red which would look stunning against all skin tones completed with a neutral eye or even a chic feline liner flick. On the plummy brown side of proceedings is Sultry, a near enough exact dupe for one of my MAC faves, Captive - there's still a tinge of red to it but it's mauvey undertone actually makes it pretty daytime appropriately wearable - a good pick for those who fancy something a little less in-yer-face than the other two.

They're currently on a 3-for-2 offer at Boots, priced at £7.99 a pop and I'm urging you to grab a cluster (or two) - but if matte isn't your thang, they've also just thrown a lacquer lot into the mix which give off more of a gloss. With 10 shades in each new range you're a little spoilt for choice ladies - take your pick... (P.s and let me know what they are).

  8. They've still got a minty hint to them, but I'm pretty sure it's not as strong as the originals :-)
