Essie's Winter '13 Minis

Last weeks lunch time trip to Boots resulted in me leaving not-so-empty handed, and what with a recent 3-for-2 offer across all cosmetics, I don't think I would have stood much of a chance anyway. Spotted on the shelves of an Essie stand was the new-just-in Winter '13 Collection, £12.99 a set and so into my basket it went. I think I can safely say I now have this years festive fingertips sorted...

A trio of 5ml minis complete this collection, my pick of the pack being Shearling Darling, a deep wine red. Two coats, one amazing opaque finish. I'm more of a shimmer-free lacquer lover, but the specks in Parka Perfect are barely there when brushed on the nails compared to what you see in the bottle. A slightly shimmering blue-toned grey, this one reminds me of a crisp Christmas morning - not a shade I'd usually grab but I'll give it a go nevertheless. Last up, and the most festive of the three is a sparkling crimson red, titled Toggle to the Top. Paired with Shearling Darling as an accent glitter ring finger nail is most likely the way I'll paint it on, but come party season, who knows? I may allow it to adorn all ten of my talons.

It's well worth knowing that even these teeny tasters come with the wide, round-tipped brush applicators as seen in the full-size selection, which when pushed as close as possible to the cuticle - no touching - creates the neatest edge. Essie, you've gone and done it again, haven't you?
