Kate Somerville's Guide to Complexion Perfection

Skincare obsessives, listen up. I apologise if my Kate Somerville ravings are getting a bit boring but I'm afraid there's plenty more where that came from. It obviously wasn't going to be too much longer before her book came into my grasps, and without wanting to give too much away, I thought I'd share exactly why I've deemed this a can't-put-it-down type book, so much so that I've often been up until the early hours, drowsy eyes fixed on Kate's skincare tips. Oh yes, this is definitely my kind of bedtime reading...

Four parts and twelve chapters make up this beauty bible, each chapter name a closer step to complexion perfection. For starters, Kate lets you into a bit of her background history and goes on to how she became the 'Guru of Glow' - seriously interesting stuff this. What a woman. Flicking onto the first chapter, Complexion Direction, where all things 'skin' are spoken; science, structure and the Kate Somerville Skin Health Pyramid - her personal formula built up of five principles, and when all are applied, result in super fresh skin. My favourite quote so far? (when on the topic of hydration) ''We're born plump, juicy grapes and have to work hard not to become raisins''. Amazing.

She breaks down stress, its effects and serves up some solutions, then moves on to focus on food (my fave part)which is quite appropriately titled 'Beauty and the Buffet'. Now I already knew most things she mentions, but I didn't quite realise how much goodness is in some of this stuff. I don't know how she's done it, but my diet has had a complete makeover - I haven't even eyed-up a bag of crisps, my biggest downfall, for almost a month, and that says something.

Complexion Correction covers the cutting-edge treatments to really make a difference, products and ingredients that deliver and at-home DIY's which truly do the trick. Skin types were determined in the previous chapter by outlining the characteristics, but now Kate goes on to link up treatments and recommendations for each one.

Prepare to be wowed when you turn to part three, Complexion Transformation. Here is where you see her magic work, everything already talked about being put into action. Fifteen clients, each with different skin concerns, problems and goals are put under a strict 10 week KS program carried out at home which includes facial treatments, use of her products and lifestyle suggestions. Before and after shots are shown and well, there are no words - where do I sign up?

The last chunk completes with Complexion Affection: stating with the stages of skin health, and a another genius quote for ya, ''Our skin is called our ''birthday suit'' for a reason. We're born in it, and we wear it our whole lives''. Too true. A Q&A session follows and then there's the chance to, virtually, meet her 'Hollywood Glam Squad' who chat makeup, hair and fashion. She finishes on a high with a low-down on her product line (my wishlist just got a whole lot longer) and has even thrown in a discount code with free delivery. WIN.

In a nutshell? Probably one of the best purchases I've ever made. And for around £16 on Amazon, it'd be rude for you not to, too *elbow nudge*. The majority of the skin side of things I was already familiar with, it definitely takes me back to my college days, but in the words of the woman herself, you're always learning, so whether you're a beginner or already have a place in the industry, make it a must on your Christmas list. The way it's written almost makes you feel like you're in the same facial room as her, having a one-on-one consultation - clever, inspirational and motivational all in a wad of pages.

And yes, you can bet I'll be taking full advantage of that discount code if it works outside of the US, that is - Quench Hydrating Face Serum, come to mama...
