Inside the Overnight Pouch

For holidays, I'm a self confessed product over-packer, but when it comes overnight stays, if anything I'll under-pack and for a recent stop-off in London it was the same old story. For skin, hair and body care, it usually goes something along the lines of me whittling down a wad of samples which are stashed especially for these kinda occasions. They'll make for a mini in-hotel-room beauty ritual, but not only that, they're space saving and won't add a load to your luggage, allowing more room for armful after armful of those shopping bags...

To remove the remains of my eye makeup, I'd stuffed two Bioderma-soaked cotton pads into a plastic Muji pot which kept 'em moist and saved me bringing along a bottle of the big stuff. For the face, I made use of Malin+Goetz's Grapefruit Face Cleanser, a fruity smelling gel which foams up and scrubs off every scrap without stinging or drying-out the skin. I took advantage of the free-evening time so also packed a duo-packet from The Sanctuary - a two-step reverse facial system. First-up the Peptide Transformation Serum, followed by the Thermal Rose Clay Mask - this peptide/hylauronic acid combo creates a warming effect to help hydrate, plump and repair the skins structures and 15 minutes later it cools naturally.  Side note: This stuff gets hot, but it's lovely. Dabbed on my dark circles was Bobbi Brown's Hydrating Eye Cream and all over added moisture came from a tiny tube of Decleor's Aroma Night, a beautiful spa-like scented balm which nourishes nicely. Before hopping into bed, I slathered my arms and legs in a generous sample of Space NK's own-brand, Beautannia's Brideshead Body Cream. For good measure, I'd thrown in the This Works Sleep Balm - if I'm honest, I'm a bit wary about being without this snooze-inducing solution. That got dabbed on temples and wrists, but also doubles-up as a dry skin patch saviour.

Come the morning I gave the Beautannia Bloomsbury Bath & Shower Gel a go, a decadently scented, skin smoothing soap that lingers on your limbs. Hair got a spruce-up spritz from a travel-friendly tin of Oribe's Dry Texturizing spray and before applying that days makeup array, I popped on a blob of Origins Plantscription SPF 25 sun-protecting, moisture boosting, anti-aging cream. Fragrance of choice was a mini Burberry Body and lips got a glide-over with Fresh's Sugar Rose Tinted balm, all of this perfectly fitting in a Muji pouch. Obviously essentials such as hairbrush, toothbrush, deodorant also made the cut, as well as a makeup bag of basics.

Moral of the story: stash those beauty counter, magazine or free-with-purchase sachets for those overnight stay situations. And just to compare extremities, when the next holiday away rolls around, I'll be sure to document the beauty bunch that gets dragged along with me - now that, is summin' else...

  3. What a clever idea re the Bioderma! I was just thinking if you wrapped the pads in cotton wool you'd be saving even more space (let's all see how tiny we can get our overnight bags to become!) xxx
