In-flight Beauty Essentials

As a reasonably regular flyer I feel I've almost got packing the necessary beauty bits in my hand luggage down to a tee, (let me assure you this is nothing in comparison to the toiletries in my actual suitcase!). For long haul flights, I'm guilty of setting up a skincare station on my fold out table and giving myself a full on facial much to the amusement of other passengers around me, but for shorter haul flights its all about the simple essentials.

I tend to head off to the airport with nothing but a thin layer of moisturiser, this time my product of choice being the Institute Esthederm Recovery Care Cream, light but extremely nourishing. Upon take off I applied another generous layer then for eyes, I patted on a dollop of Origins No Puffery Cooling Mask to refresh and tame my tired eyes and left on as an all-day treatment works pretty well even under makeup. My current multi-use weapon of choice, Dr Lipp's Nipple Balm for Lips keeps a dry, chapped pout at bay and also works well rubbed into cuticles. I then tidied up my nail tips with the Stylfile Emergency File and to seal the deal, I covered my hands with the This Works Perfect Hands hand cream in a travel friendly size.

Just before touching down, I try to make myself a little more put together with a few basic makeup bits. A caking of foundation isn't always the best look after being up in the clouds, so I opted for a light covering of the Dr Jart Water Fuse BB Cream which gives a natural, fresh look to the skin, a hint of colour and just enough coverage to hide any unwelcome imperfections (plus it's quick and easy to slap on with your fingers!). A couple of lashings of Bobbi Brown's Long-Wear Intensifying mascara, a run of 3 Custom Color's Light Clarifying Pencil on the waterline, a quick slick of the Apricot Shimmer Clarins Instant Light Natural Lip Perfector and spritz of fragrance from my Flo travel atomiser and I was good to go. All of this tucked into a Muji Airport Pouch fitting neatly into my hand luggage, which also usually houses a packet of tissues, a mirror, a bottle of water and not forgetting a good old mag too!

Most normal people would think about what book they're going to read to pass the time or which movies need to be pre-loaded onto their iPad, but I get quite excited about switching up my in-flight pamper each time. I guess that's a confession of a true beauty addict...

  2. I love the Dr Jart BB Balm although it's slightly too dark for me. I'm not a frequent flyer so I don't really think about what to take on a plane, I just make sure I pack plenty of moisturiser :) xx

    Almost Delightful

    1. Try mixing in a lighter shade of foundation/bb cream in with it, see it works :-) x

  3. I always make sure to moisturise on long flights - it really does tend to dry out my skin! Ever since I caught a nasty virus on a flight to London, I make sure to pack hand sanitizer. And chewing gum, of course :)

    1. It really does! :-( Oh no - I don't blame you, I rarely go anywhere without hand sanitizer rolling around in the bottom of my bag! x

  4. The origins no puffery eye mask sounds really good! Will have to take a look at it. I love the clarins instant light natural lip perfector. I love how they make your lips look naturally gorgeous and not sticky at all! x

  5. I made the mistake of going on a flight to Florida with a full face of make up two years ago, having only ever been on a a plane for a maximum of an hour and a half before I didn't know what a mistake it would be to my skin!!! On the way back I simply had moisturiser and a lip balm on and I've vowed to never wear anything but a bit of mascara again! I've really enjoyed this post though as it's made me think that I would actually prefer to do a full skincare routine than watch a film or read (unless I was reading blogs!) on a flight! I hope you had a lovely time (pretty sure you had a winter break?!) and a happy christmas/new year!
