Beauty Bargains: thisworks, Fekkai & Essie

I always get quite nervous walking into TK Maxx (TJ Maxx if you're American!) purely because I'm unaware how much it's going to affect my bank balance. Their beauty and hair section has been on top form lately, a few months ago I couldn't believe my luck when I discovered 3 Essie polishes for £10 so I had high hopes when I made a trip more recently.

I stumbled across a whole section of Frederick Fekkai hair products and before I knew it the Glossing Cream had made its way into my basket. I've heard great things about it, mainly from Ameila and Fleur, and for less than half the original rrp, it was a complete bargain at £9.99. I've found it works best applied to the ends of damp hair and once blow dried it leaves your locks feeling soft, smooth and sleek (I realise it's packed with silicones galore, but that still didn't stop me!). The purchase I was most chuffed with, was the This Works: Perfect Skin set as I've wanted to try something from their line for a while now. Inside is the Perfect Hands hand cream, Tired Eyes Serum and Perfect Cleavage (a tightening and toning serum for the chest and neck, something I feel I don't need as of yet but as I turn 22 tomorrow, it might not be too much longer before this is put to use!) Reduced from £22, to £12, it immediately joined the Glossing Cream in my basket without a second thought! I'm in need of a new eye product as I'm almost out of my Origins Ginzing and so the other two products were bonuses! Last but not least, I headed over to see what other Essie goodies they had to offer and as well as the polishes, there were many other nail treatments. I picked up the Smooth Trick Deep-Conditioning Cuticle Oil - it has a little rubber point which fills with product when the tube is squeezed, really quick and easy to use! At only £3.99 I was also extremely tempted to pick up a strengthening nail treatment for the same price but a sense of self-control took over!

It's safe to say I left the store that day with a huge Cheshire cat grin spread across my face and I certainly felt quite pleased with myself - it's the little things, eh?!

Have you picked up any bargains recently?

BeTrousse 'Summer Break' Beauty Box & Giveaway

A new month, a new BeTrousse box and I have to say when the PR email popped up in my inbox to announce the next kit was soon to be released, I was quite excited. BeTrousse have a very different concept with beauty boxes (read my first post here!) and don't seem to be as regular with the usual subscription services, releasing a new one around every two months.

The first and only thing to really catch my eye in this box was the Cinq Mondes Rose Petal Rain Mist, a light body spray with a delicate fragrance - yet another rose scented product to feed my current obsession (I could only previously associate it with grandmas, what has come over me?!). Now I'm not sure what your thoughts are but 3 different full size face creams in one box is a little unimaginative in my opinion and it seems to me that the variation of contents in this box wasn't really planned out too well. There is something about the packaging for the Benta Berry Moisturising Cream for girls and boys (?!) that I really like and the fact that their products contain natural ingredients and are paraben free gets a big thumbs up from me! I believe this product is targeted more at teenagers with problematic complexions as it claims to sooth, reduce redness and blemishes and mattify the skin. The Lilas Blanc Secret Eclat Jeunesse anti-wrinkle day cream however, is more suitable for the other end of the age spectrum, designed to visibly reduce wrinkles, nourish and smooth the skin - I have a feeling this may be swiftly passed on to my mother (sorry mum!). The third moisturiser to fall between the previous two is the Orhis Nourishing Face Cream, suitable for all skin types and aims to repair, soften and protect. It's made up of 98% natural ingredients, including cottonseed and argan oil, also free from parabens, silicones and mineral oil (thumbs go up again!).

The last product was also a huge disappointment for me personally. I feel the Nail Art Kit Express by Cosmetoo Nails is quite childish, something an 8 year old would be ecstatic about, but not necessarily someone who is paying for a box of full size products. Of course, one thing about BeTrousse is that you are able to view what each box contains on their site before you decide to buy it - so at least you know what's coming, I just think this particular item degrades the rest of the box.

Here's the good bit! I have a BeTrousse Summer Break Beauty Box to give away to one of my readers, all you need to do is 'Like' the BeTrousse Facebook page, follow this blog via GFC and leave a comment below including your e-mail address or Twitter handle so I can contact you if you win! This giveaway closes Sunday 2nd September 2012 and is open to residents of England, Scotland and Wales only (Sorry!). I will contact the winner personally to then pass on your details to the BeTrousse team who will get your box out to you! Good luck :-)

New Skincare & Clarisonic Update

You may remember this post of a few new skincare bits I'd gathered and since then I seemed to have somehow gathered even more (honestly don't know how this could have happened!), so I thought it might be an idea to give each product a little review and let you know my thoughts on them as it has been a good couple of weeks of putting them to the test.

Yes I caved, I got the 'Dioberma' as I keep accidentally calling it - as much as I loved the Boots Botanics Soothing Eye Makeup Remover (did the job and was cheap as chips!), the reviews on their new product formulations haven't been too great so this is a much more pricey yet long-awaited for purchase, it's been on my list for some time. REN are currently working their way up on my skincare leader board, I've been using their No.1 Purity Cleansing Balm and Invisible Pores Detox Mask, both of which I'm absolutely in love with. I won't babble on too much further and as not to spoil the video, I'll let you find out for yourselves what I think of the other products I've been trying out ;-)

As we're on the subject of skincare, I also thought I'd throw in a Clarisonic update seeing as I haven't really said too much since this post I did after a months use. When I was first thinking about investing in one, reading reviews was vital as it really is an investment to make, so although there are many out there, I feel giving my opinion on it might be helpful, even if it only helps one person!

What skincare products have been doing it for you recently?

Weekend Pamper Post #2

I haven't been too consistent with my pamper posts recently, I promised to blog about one each week if I could but this weekend especially was a great excuse for a little 'me time'. I have a chilled week with the boy and what better way to start than being preened head to toe!

First things first, I jumped into the shower for a good ol' scrub, I used the Soap & Glory Flake Away which does just the trick, plus it smells amazing! After washing my hair, I sealed the ends with the Fekkai Glossing Cream. It leaves my locks feeling soft, smooth and sleek, then left my hair to dry naturally, something I'm trying to do more regularly. Currently on the hunt for a new hair mask to try, I'm thinking Ojon - recommendations are welcome!

To set the mood so to say, and to turn my bedroom into a make-shift spa, I lit my Neom Sensuous Travel Candle, the perfect size to move from room to room - or even to take away with you! Neom says it 'eases tension and anxiety' with scents of ylang ylang, frankincense and patchouli (the three wick is next on my list, I can't get over how good the scent is!). I covered myself in AHAVA's Deadsea Water Mineral Body Lotion and after my usual cleanse and tone, I swiped the Alpha H Liquid Gold over my face and neck. It's been a complete saviour for my skin, I noticed results even from first use and it's quickly nestled itself nicely into my holy grail picks (more on that in an upcoming video!). I leave it on overnight, without applying a moisturiser, as an intensive treatment and my skin is definitely agreeing! I applied the This Works: Tired Eye Serum under my eyes (I'd put it in the fridge before hand so it was slightly cool!) as my dark circles and bags are looking a little worse for wear, this is just so refreshing and soothing! I'm scraping out the remainders of my miniature Liz Earle Superbalm, a multi-use product for cuticles, lips and dry skin. It has little grains in it which dissolve as you massage it in and an aromatherapy type scent, as I prefer tinted balms for during the day, I build up a thick layer of this on my lips for overnight.

As I'm having the week off, so are my nails and I decided that my regular 'au natural' mani was in order. I filed, buffed and tided up my cuticles before applying two coats of OPI Nail Envy (the god of all nail strengtheners!). To finish off, I doused the base of my nails in Essie's Smooth Trick Deep-Conditioning Cuticle Oil and slathered on the Neom Inspiration Organic Hand Cream.

Roll on next weekend ;-)

July Favourites

This months favourites include a bit of everything, minus the skin care. If you saw this post, you'll know I've been trying out a few new things (a few more on the way too!) and so after another week or so I plan to do a skincare haul/update and didn't want to spoil anything by sneaking them into this video.. watch this space!

After dipping my toes into the BB cream hype, I'm intrigued to try more and so the Origins Perfect World is next on my list, but I'm happy to go with recommendations (share below!). A few more brands I want to explore are Bumble and Bumble, I've really enjoyed using their BB Texture (Un) dressing creme and I've already found myself conjuring up a wishlist on their site! Neom is a brand I've always wanted to try, especially for their candles and since one of two of their organic hand creams was a freebie with July's Harpers Bazaar magazine, I thought it was a great opportunity to sample their bodycare. I love the fact that their products are completely natural, mostly organic in fact - right up my street!

To see what else I've been loving this month (I even mention some jewellery items!), click on the video above. All extra information and links will be listed in the information bar below if you open the video in a separate link!

What have you been loving this month?
